Computer Committee

 

What We Do:

Provide computer support for Damascus United Methodist Church.  This means we provide technical & administrative support for all our computers, networks, and software.

Attempt to make the best possible decisions for our computer resources and to meet the present and future computing and information needs of the Church.

Attempt to identify future information needs of the Church and to research, recommend, and implement new policies, procedures, and technologies to support those needs.

Why We Do This:

To provide and maintain Church related information necessary to manage Church operations and provide information for all Church groups, members, affiliated, and associated organizations.

Services Provided:

Office Management Support – For membership records, financial records, etc.

Website Management – For the Church website including; the Church calendar, mission group information, general Church information, etc.

Oversight & Maintenance – Of our networked and stand-alone computers, including anti-virus software and back-up systems.

We Have:

As of August 2011 – 12 computers – 7 desktops (one of which is our file server), 5 laptops

Many	Computer monitors, mice, switches, speakers, etc.

 

2011 Accomplishments:

Contributed significantly to the new DUMC website

Implemented wireless internet connectivity in the Dining Hall and soon in the Great Hall and Choir rooms

Who Are We:

The following volunteers have given generously of their time and expertise to maintain our computer infrastructure, support our office staff, as well as affiliated and associated organizations, and missions.

Kent Engel	Committee Chair – provides committee leadership, created and maintained our current documentation, procedures, and policies including our Technical Support Manual
Ron Adams	Our Audio Video expert.  Ron records, edits, and loads sermons onto our file storage web site where it is linked to our main web site by the office staff
Jeff Heinbaugh	One of our general management and technical experts
Paul Lewis	One of our general management and technical experts
George Moy	Website technical support expert and general management experts
Pat Sweeney	Our primary technical expert and Church Office support person
Disken Tsoi	Our primary network, RF and wireless expert
Jane Webb	Office Manager and key link between the committee and the Church
Jim Kelly	While not a member of the Computer Committee, Jim is one of our “technical support volunteers” and our “second” primary tech expert

 

Want To Join Us?

All you need is an interest in helping your Church and some background and experience in computers and/or networks.

We meet on the 4th Tuesday of most months (not so much in the summer) at 7:00 p.m. in the Annex.  Simply show up and be willing to participate.  We would love to have you join us!
