Sharing Life Together

We celebrate everyone’s unique journey as a follower of Christ. We believe that life-changing growth happens when communities work together towards the common purpose of becoming more like Christ through their study, caring for others, and serving others. Through Study Groups, Small Groups, lifestage groups and support ministries, we believe that we can come together to develop devoted followers of Jesus Christ that can make a difference in our world. If you’d like to learn more or if you need help connecting with a group, reach out to us… we’re here for you!

Join an Adult Sunday Faith Time Class

Our Adult Sunday Faith Time Classes are a way for diverse people to gather, experience, and share God’s grace, love, and hope. Adult classes meet at the church and via Zoom. Explore class offerings below.

Faith Time Adults

Leslie Adult Class:

‘Leslie’ adult class selects a book (religious or spiritual in content) to read (usually 1 chapter per week) prior to class and have a robust discussion.

Each class member obtains their book.

Meetings are held in the church library.

Lovefeast:

The Lovefeast Sunday School builds community through facilitated discussion, often resulting in more questions than answers. The class has studied books of the Bible, books about the Bible, and books by religious thinkers.

Participants also fellowship through periodic non-Sunday gatherings and support myriad DUMC mission projects and ministries. While many members have teenage/young adult children and aging parents, all ages in all phases of adult life are welcome.

This class thrives on diversity of thoughts, experiences and opinions.

Disciple Ship Voyage (DSV) Adult Small Group Class:

DSV is on a journey to be thoughtful and loving disciples of Jesus Christ and to better understand how living like Christ applies in today’s world.  We read and discuss current Christian books and have a moderate pace so we have lots of time for discussing each chapter.  We sometimes get sidetracked, but the conversation often leads to reflection, insight and healing.    The DSV class meets virtually only every Sunday, at our NEW TIME From 11am to 12pm.

This small group study is perfect for those who can't physically make it to church, but still want to participate in a DUMC small study group.  If your schedule takes you away on weekends, or you live a distance from the church, you are welcome to join this class virtually via your computer, tablet or phone.   All are welcome, no matter where you are!  There is always room for more DSV shipmates!

Some of our favorite books we’ve read and discussed include: So You Don’t Want to Go to Church Anymore, an Unexpected Journey, by Wayne Jacobsen; The Power of a Whisper, by Bill Hybels; Max Lucado’s, Outlive Your Life; If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat, by John Ortberg; the Jesus Revolution Bible Study and movie, by Greg Laurie and Ellen Vaughn; and most recently, “Wisdom Jesus” by Cynthia Bourgeault.

We’ll be starting a new book soon!  Look for future communication in the church bulletin and “This Week at DUMC.”

If you’d like more information about our group, or if you’d like to join us, please contact Cathy Heinbaugh (cheinbaugh@comcast.net), Jeff Heinbaugh (heinbjc@comcast.net), or Don Hecht (don.hecht@avendra.com) so we can add you to our email and a Zoom link to our weekly discussions.
