Our special events provide opportunities for you to grow in Faith , help others, and have fun.
Assisting with Services
Youth are a very important part of our church family. Here at DUMC we believe it is important to get our youth involved in all aspects of Church life. We also want to make sure the youth voice is heard in our congregation. One way to do that is to assist with services on a weekly basis - join the Charles Wesley Singers and sing in the choir, sign up to read liturgy , assist with communion, assist with the children's sermon.
In addition to these activities we have two special Sunday's each year where the youth lead the service. Youth Sunday done in late January/early February is when the entire service is led by and structured by youth. Leading up to the service we work as a group to determine our topic, appropriate scripture, and prepare the message for the sermon. Senior Sunday the last Sunday before Memorial day weekend when we honor our Seniors and they take over the service for that day.
Volunteer Opportunities
Each year we have volunteer opportunities, such as our Rise Against Hunger event in January, and Habitat for Humanity in June/July for those 16 an older. Our Summer Faith Time Fun (SFTF) event is held each summer the 3rd week in July and youth have the ability to serve as our crew leaders and station helpers for the program. In addition to the week there are additional volunteer opportunities early in July for assisting with preparation and scene and decoration prep. Open opportunities:
Events and Trips
Two of our main events run by the Youth is our annual Living Nativity and our Easter egg hunt for the Children. Living nativity is run in December and for this event youth serve as narrators, and all the performers in the nativity - Mary, Joseph, King Herod, angles, inn keeper, wise men/women, Shepherds. Our animals are played by the children. Our Easter Egg hunt is held on Palm Sunday during Faith Time when we hold an easter egg hunt for the children - ages 2 to 5th grade. Youth are responsible for hiding the eggs, assisting the little ones with egg hunt, and leading games and activities.
